Beside the Sea

I dreamed I saw my Christ one day,
     Alive as you or me--
A-roving where the seagulls play,
     Asleep beside the sea.

While He was sleeping I crept up,
     Afraid to make a sound.
I poured upon Him all my cares
And thought that He had drowned.

But when my soul was calm once more
And all my tears had dried,
I saw my Christ rise on the shore
     As if He never died.
