Institutes & Centers

Outstanding scholarship knows no boundaries.  The College of Arts and Sciences’ centers and institutes foster innovative, interdisciplinary, and socially conscious study around San Francisco and the world.

Our centers and institutes span a wide range of subjects: from reducing the threat of nuclear war at the Nautilus Center for Security and Sustainability – part of the distinguished Center for the Pacific Rim – to cross-border collaborative immigration studies through Center for Latino Studies in the Americas.

In addition to running established programs, these institutions often have the flexibility to respond to evolving global issues with new initiatives, such as the Office of Living-Learning Communities’ Garden Project.  This community-inspired project offers students a hands-on opportunity to learn about climate change, water rights, food security, and social and economic justice as they relate to food production.

The research and activities of our centers and institutes expand USF’s academic range and offer faculty and students many paths to pursue innovative work on some of the world’s most challenging issues.
